“I always felt comfortable having my hair cut in salons by women, but in barbershops I was often asked if I had a girlfriend and overheard the way some men spoke about women and queer people, which never sat right with me. Now, as a hairdresser and barber myself, I have the privilege to change that narrative – creating a space where all walks of life feel welcomed, respected, and celebrated. I’ve also been truly privileged to support trans people with their hair journeys, helping them feel more like themselves and seeing the confidence it brings. My job is all about making people feel good – whether that’s through a fresh haircut, a new style, or simply creating a space where they feel comfortable and valued. It’s more than just hair; it’s about giving people confidence and helping them leave feeling their best.
Had an amazing photoshoot with Chris – the whole experience felt so natural and effortless. He made me feel completely comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera, which really brought out the best in me. It was fun, creative, and such a positive vibe from start to finish.”
Callum (he/him)
A hairdresser by day, Callum is a gay man who finds joy in music festivals, tattoos, and testing his limits at the gym and through running. His love for marathons began with the 2025 London Marathon, where he ran for Mind and discovered how fundraising for mental health also helped save his own. Mental health advocacy remains central to his life, and he speaks openly to help break the stigma for men.
For Callum, being queer means living truthfully, embracing every part of himself, and connecting with a community built on strength and pride. He honours this identity through his tattoos, each marking personal growth and resilience. One of his most affirming experiences has been the unconditional love and quiet understanding of his mum, who accepted him without question long before he came out.
His message to younger queer people is simple: everything works out. Trust yourself, be bold, and don’t be afraid to write your own story—joy belongs in the journey as much as courage and strength.

This is UNCUT — a raw, striking portrait series by award-winning photographer Chris Jepson capturing the power and pride of Queer Joy, shot in a barber’s chair. No filters, no retouching, no compromise. Just bold, beautiful people taking up space exactly as they are.
