they/them

The first time attending Trans Pride Brighton was truly a life-changing experience. I walked through town to the assembly point at Jubilee Square, seeing more and more Trans flags along the way. I figured there’d be a few hundred of us marching that day (pride is a protest!). But as I turned the final corner, I stumbled upon a mass of thirty thousand people ready to fight. I immediately felt the tears welling up. That was the moment I knew I could be trans here, in my chosen hometown.

To me, Pride gives me the ability to be who I want to be. I’ve spent most of my life trying to fit a mould I thought would please everyone else, and ended up playing a character.
The freedom and acceptance Pride gives has been instrumental in me finding out who I actually am.
