A portrait project marking 35 years of Pride in Brighton & Hove
Proud Studios CIC and Brighton Pride CIC are excited to present Proud Brighton – We Are Community, a portrait photography project celebrating 35 years of Pride in Brighton & Hove, to be exhibited at Jubilee Library, Brighton, from 27 July to 15 August 2026.
Commissioned by Brighton Pride CIC, the project is part of United in Pride, a joint initiative bringing together Brighton & Hove Pride, Trans Pride Brighton and Brighton Bear Weekend. The project features portraits of people drawn from all three communities, each accompanied by a single sentence about what Pride means to them, reflecting Pride as it is actually lived across the city.

The Exhibition
Jubilee Library, Brighton • 27 July-15 August 2026
The exhibition is comprised of 9 double sided panels, each 1000mm wide and 1800mm tall. With a pocket at the top, they are suspended in the library windows and on display 24 hours a day.
The images are arranged across the panels to make a progress flag of community portraits, with each portrait accompanied by a sentence from the sitter saying what Pride means to them.
In collaboration with Brighton & Hove Pride, Brighton Bear Weekend and Trans Pride Brighton, the sitters were sourced vis an open call on social media, in mainstream media and via community email newsletters. Drop-in photoshoots were then arranged and for those that couldn’t make them, private shoots were held. No one was turned away. Everyone who wanted to take part, did.
