Andrew Flewitt (he/him)

“Reclaiming the barbershop chair is something I never thought I needed to do, but it’s something that when I think back on was very intimidating for me growing up as a teenager.

“Bringing my whole self to the chair at this time, my look, my nails, my queerness unfiltered, feels very very empowering.

“I also love that I’m bringing my art, and the stories from the queer community within my book as part of the shoot… finding our community and our people is more important than ever.”

Andrew is a queer creative based in Brighton, where he lives with his husband of nearly 20 years. He is the creator and host of Queer I Am, The Podcast – a four-season series that has reached listeners in over 60 countries and earned a nomination at the Independent Podcast Awards.

In 2025, Andrew adds “author” to his name with the global release of his first book, Do You Believe in Life After Loss – Queer Stories of Loss, Hope and Resilience. The book shares powerful personal stories and experiences of loss that reflect the strength and resilience of the queer community, but will inspire the reader regardless of how they identify, and regardless of whether they can relate directly to the contributor’s story.

At the heart of Andrew’s work is creativity and connection. Through podcasting, writing and open conversation, he amplifies queer voices and sheds light on themes that are often difficult but deeply important. His passion lies in celebrating queerness in all its forms – his own included.

For Andrew, being queer means embracing every part of who he is. It’s a source of strength and creativity. His queerness helped him find his voice, shape his work and move through life with purpose and pride.

Receiving proof copies of his book was a defining moment. It made him feel truly seen – not just for his work, but for who he is. That validation fuelled his confidence and reminded him that his voice matters.

Whether through his style, painted nails, written word, or the conversations he leads, Andrew moves through the world with authenticity. His message to queer youth is simple and honest: you don’t need all the answers right now. Stay curious, find your people, and explore the richness of queer life and history. There’s magic in discovering who you are.

This is UNCUT — a raw, striking portrait series by award-winning photographer Chris Jepson capturing the power and pride of Queer Joy, shot in a barber’s chair. No filters, no retouching, no compromise. Just bold, beautiful people taking up space exactly as they are.
