About Raya

Raya decided to transition whilst working as a secondary RS and A level philosophy teacher. Contrary to public perceptions, she found this to be a wonderful experience and was well supported by colleagues, parents, and students alike. Unfortunately, due to the high costs associated with transitioning, she left education and retrained as an accountant to cover her healthcare bill. Unsure of her next steps, she looks forward to discovering what the future holds.

JOY

Lately I’ve been learning to knit and crochet. Seeing my wonderful partner proudly wearing my creations brings me heaps of joy!

I also love acrobatic forms of movement. I did a lot of gymnastics growing up, and have since done cheerleading, yoga, and lately rollerskating.

I play a number of instruments, and I write a little of my own music. I have been really enjoying helping other musicians as a producer lately. Collaboration is exciting.

To me, Trans Joy is ease of being. Peace and comfort after a lifetime of awkward numbness. looking forward with excitement. Building the lives we deserve.

In a world that often struggles to fully embrace diversity and inclusion, ‘Beyond the Binary – The Spectrum Of Trans Joy’ is a project dedicated to fostering social cohesion and visibility for the trans and intersex community. This fresh initiative from the award-winning queer photographer Chris Jepson seeks to empower and celebrate the trans+ community by showcasing authentic joy through a captivating series of individual and group portraits.
